How to find the price of a property that has sold near you in France

A government platform allows you to see house sales from the past five years. You can also use the platform look at the French cadastral map

If your neighbour has sold their house recently the sale will probably be listed on the DVF database Pic:

It is possible to find out how much a property in France has sold for in the past five years by searching for its valeur foncière on the DVF platform.

The DVF is a public platform managed by Etalab, the state body in charge of coordinating the sharing of public data.

To see how much the properties have sold for, choose your department and then commune and click on a local area.

You will see properties that were sold between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2021 highlighted in light blue.

For example, this 260 square metre house in Blaye (Gironde) – highlighted in pink as we have selected it – sold for €400,000 in August 2021.

It should be noted that the price of the property is based on the net sale price and does not take into account fees to the estate agent or notaire.

Additionally, there is no publicly available data for the departments of Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Moselle and Mayotte. This is because they are managed by local laws and the sale data is kept in what is called the Livre Foncier, which is not freely accessible by the public.

One other useful element to know about the Etalab website is that you can also use it to look at the French cadastral map, which shows the boundaries of each property.

This could be useful in case you are requesting lost or unobtained property deeds (acte de vente), as one way to get a new copy is online using the cadastral reference of your property.
